| Vardenafil is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is used to treat the physical cause of erectile dysfunction, which is often a result of blocked blood vessels. This is done by inhibiting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5, which breaks down the chemical responsible for erections. This helps men to achieve and maintain an erection for sexual activity. Vardenafil belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. It is also sold under the brand name Levitra. The drug is available in tablets, oral capsules, and oral liquids. The recommended dose is 20mg taken about 30 minutes before sexual activity. Vardenafil is not for use by women. The most common side effects are headache, flushing, upset stomach, nasal congestion, and stuffy nose. The use of vardenafil may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. The drug should not be taken with nitrates and recreational drugs called poppers. Consult your doctor before taking vardenafil if you have heart disease, liver disease, high or low blood pressure, a history of stroke or heart attack, abnormal blood cell counts, or severe vision problems. Do not take vardenafil if you are taking alpha blockers or medications for prostate cancer. The drug should not be taken with nitrates and recreational drugs called poppers. |
