The type of material you are working with will help determine the type of rivet material you choose. Common rivet material combinations and their respective uses are listed below:

Copper: for conducting electricity
Nylon: used with plastic
Stainless Steel/Stainless Steel: Used with steel or aluminum, it has high strength and is not easy to rust and corrode.
Stainless Steel/Steel: Also used with steel or aluminum for very high strength, but is prone to rust and corrosion.
Steel/Steel: Use with steel for high strength.
