'Release request' Park Byung-ho traded to Samsung
Park Byung-ho (86) and Oh Jae-il (37), both born in 1986, will swap uniforms.
KT Wiz and Samsung Lions announced on Monday that they have agreed to a one-for-one trade that will swap the two players.
Earlier, it was reported that Park Byung-ho, who has been losing out in the competition for the starting role due to his poor performances this season, requested a waiver from the club after he was removed from the first team on Nov. 26 due to back pain, and KT is believed to have urgently pushed for the trade.
The trade between the two players of the same age was reportedly finalized when Samsung offered Oh Jae-il.
The trade was a good fit for both organizations, as Samsung was in desperate need of a right-handed slugger at the hitter-friendly Daegu Samsung Lions Park and KT had to part ways with Park Byung-ho, who had already left the organization.
Park has appeared in 44 games this season, batting .198 (20-for-101) with three home runs and 10 RBIs. Of those 44 games, he has started just over half of them (23), with the other 21 games coming as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement.
Park, who signed a three-year, 3 billion won contract with KT in December 2021, had a spectacular resurgence in his first season with the club, batting .275 with 35 home runs and 98 RBIs in his first season 카지노 after dismissing concerns about an “aging curve.
Last season, he took a step back, but still managed to hit .283 with 18 home runs and 87 RBIs.
However, Park Byung-ho's performance this season has been sluggish compared to previous years, and he was removed from the first team roster on June 26, citing back pain.
After receiving Park's request for release, KT considered various options for his future and eventually pushed for a trade, which Samsung responded and the deal was finalized.
After spending his prime with the Doosan Bears, Oh Jae-il became eligible for free agency and donned a Samsung uniform in 2021.
Oh lived up to expectations by hitting 20 or more home runs in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022, but he struggled last season, batting .203 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs.
This season, he hit just .234 with three home runs and eight RBIs in 22 games. As a result, Oh lost his starting first base job to David McKinnon and has been used primarily as a designated hitter and pinch-hitter.
Coincidentally, Oh bade a final farewell to Samsung fans when he came on as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of a 2-4 home loss to Kiwoom.
It will be interesting to see if the two players, who are the same age, will be able to redeem themselves in their new uniforms.
