There is a lot of French music out there, and it still sounds nice. not just from France, but from every country that speaks French. As with English, this language is used in a wide variety of genres.

In other words, it's completely OK to appreciate a language and the (often romanticized) culture it's associated with without ever visiting or appreciating the place where it's spoken.
