Crop-Top Bridesmaid Dresses That Your Best Friends Won't Be Mortified to Wear
I'm all for the wedding dresses being trendy. Wedding shorts? Sure. A pop of neon? Go for it. And I adore a crop-top wedding gown when it's done well—see one bride nail it here. But forcing crop-top dresses in your bridesmaids feels a leeeeetle dicey. This is why I type of cringed when I saw the crop-top bridesmiad gowns that Brittany Kerr picked on her 'maids when she married Jason Aldean earlier this year. (See here and here.) As someone with body confidence to spare—in top of the abs region, anyway—I think I'd feel far too exposed in those particular dresses. (The tops type of feel like bedazzled sports bras, no?) And still, I do think it is possible to tap into the crop-top bridesmaid dress trend that will not have your very best friends running for cover.
If you are going to do a true crop top, I think the very best needs to be just a little loose, with just the tiniest flash of skin. (You really can't see anything here.)
Or you are able to give the impression of the crop top and keep everything hidden, having a dress that mimics the appearance but continues to be one piece:
Erin by Erin Fetherston Polka-Dot Ponte and Jacquard Popover Dress from Nordstrom, $245. Erin by Erin Fetherston Birdie Jacquard Flared Popover mother of the bride floor length dresses from Nordstrom, $325. (The dress around the left might feel just a little too business casual, but I desired to give a handful of examples of the silhouette.)
If your pals really, truly are OK with flashing some skin, I'm OK with that. But I think the very best should be around the flowy side, which means you don't head into "sports bra" territory or risk any unflattering skin pinches. This one's from Reformation's latest bridal collection, which we had earlier today:
Crop-top bridesmiad gowns: good or bad? Would you be OK with any of the above?
Unrelated to crop tops, this butterfly-covered Erin Fetherston maxidress is at the very best of my spring wish list.
