Hard to Be Excited About A Major World of Warcraft Patch

With the exception of the Shadowlands 9.1 Chains of Domination update coming soon-and for the first time, I find it hard to get excited about a major patch for World of Warcraft. And why?

When Shadowlands launched in November, the initial over-adjusted Nasriya Castle raid, the seemingly endless Torgast run, and the introduction of the Star Covenant system were enough to keep us all busy. But over time, we have adapted to the expansion, and there is nothing left to do in the afterlife. This is the post-expansion cycle that most of us are familiar with-the release of new content usually solves this problem.

The 9.1 update brings us a new ruling temple raid, a new large dungeon, and the Togast challenge. But in addition to the common content you want to see in the mid-term expansion patch, we must also master another new power system. Although it shouldn't be surprising, the initial complexity of the system and how it integrates with what is already there (or just not) makes it feel like it was added as an afterthought.

The following is how the Domination Shard system works: Shards can be inserted into specific team equipment with dominance slots. This will give you a passive effect. If you insert three pieces of the same type, there will be more significant rewards. . But since we have been making our legends into the best equipment slots we think, it is very likely that you will need to remake one or more into a new slot. This new fragmentation system seems a bit similar to the old level set bonus. But its implementation seems to be much more complicated, thanks to legendary items, and depending on your armor type, the gear slots with slots will be different.

I don't think there is any inherent problem with the system itself, but it just makes people feel bad, especially when it has such a serious conflict with our legendary equipment. We already have many other energy systems, such as Covenant Abilities, Soul Bindings, Conduit and Legends themselves, I just want to figure out why we need another one, especially because it seems inappropriate.

The most frustrating thing is that preparing for this system will make some World of Warcraft TBC Classic Gold players feel more uncomfortable than others. So far, the entire expansion seems to be unfairly favoring certain professions, especially when it comes to legendary choices or Togast skills. The problem is, I don’t even think it’s a deliberate thing-it feels more like the result of putting too much unbalanced stuff. The result is that the system responds poorly, because occupations and specifications will experience changes in personal balance over time.

For example, I initially decided to stick with my Shadow Priest when I was in Shadowlands-it has been my "workhorse" for the past seven years, although I occasionally play other things for the first or two floors. At first, only one available legend was feasible, which was good-especially when it was difficult for me to clear Togast, it was still the only reliable source of soul ashes needed to make them. But with the rebalancing of more legendary items, this situation quickly changed. If I want to be the best in each specific situation, I need at least four of them—unless I am also willing to switch Saints. Appointment, I am not. So I re-selected a different profession, Intermediate-as far as the legend is concerned, this profession is more forgiving.

You might argue that unless you are a mythic attacker or are pushing a high profile in the Mythic Plus dungeon, you don’t need a minimum-maximum. But almost every player I know will follow the guidelines to optimize their output, which is no different from the Shards system. It's fun to make the most of the courses and specifications you choose and push to see what you can do. However, it is also very frustrating to realize that the time (and money) you spend on making the current legend is just a waste.

Looking back at the previous expansions and the various power systems that came and went, I don't remember anything as out of touch as we are about to get in 9.1. Of course, no system is perfect.
