If you're after information about every fish in New Horizons and overall suggestions about how to hook them, check out our Animal Crossing: New Horizons fish guide and record for all of the fishy facts you could want. Such as the Golden Trout, the Stringfish could simply be found in elevated streams in your own island, ideally the highest point on your island (the highest clifftop pool with a waterfall). There's no point hoping to grab the Stringfish in any sea-level river place, although as you can see from our pictorial evidence, it is likely to capture the Stringfish (along with the Golden Trout) from the stream below your clifftop waterfall instead of just on the highest plateau.

The secret to catching the Stringfish is to craft fish lure using the squirting Manila Clams you dig on the shore in order to possess the infrequent fish spawn. Each clam can be crafted into a single helping of fish lure which you can scatter to the shadow of a fish to appear. To catch the Stringfish we awakened Manila Clams in the beach using our shovel and crafted them into fish bait. We then went to the greatest clifftop place and drove the fish bait in the water. It took several attempts, but after hooking a load of common fish we finally pulled it out the mighty Stringfish!

Be aware that we n't really stood the maximum level of our island. It seems you simply need to be'near' that body of water and the fish must spawn. Perhaps we got lucky - we'd recommend fishing rather than below it just to be on the safe side. Ensure that you donate you to the Museum! Blathers is going to be happy.
