5 Must-Watch Netflix Original Series to Binge
The majority of us will never be able to view even half of the shows that Netflix has already produced, even with its growing regular downtime periods taken into account. We've therefore compiled a list of the Netflix original series that you really must see, omitting documentaries and shows that were already popular elsewhere before the platform acquired them. Since life is short, start indulging.
Lupin
Possibly the most effortlessly charming man on TV right now is Assane Diop, the master thief played by Omar Sy. The world has been slow to catch up with the chic adventures of French literary hero Arsène Lupin (imagine Thomas Crown's dexterity mixed with Sherlock Holmes's cunning). However, the non-French speaking world has finally caught up thanks to Netflix's phenomenal two-parter, in which Diop channels Lupin in the name of vengeance. With its seductive Parisian settings and surprising narrative turns, even those who dislike subtitles will find it highly entertaining.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Tina Fey would make you wish you had Kimmy Schmidt as your therapist and help you fill that 30 Rock-sized hole in your DVR. Fey's creation, brought to life by the expertly cast The Chipper Ellie Kemper You'll wonder how we allowed some things in the world to get so odd when you hear Kimmy speak on modern society with the innocence of a child and the experiences of an adult—an adult who spent the majority of her life imprisoned in a bunker, to be exact.
Russian Doll
Happy birthday, my love! Creator-director Natasha Lyonne plays a game developer trapped in a time-loop scenario reminiscent of Groundhog's Day in this dramedy. She must repeat the same day over and over again until she realizes her situation is not as unusual as it first appears. The program seems to be stuck in its time loop with its superfluous second season, although the first season stands well on its own. While many films and television shows have used the same idea to explore similar existential topics, few of them are as intelligent and poignant as this one.
Ozark
Although Ozark took a while to win over Netflix viewers and win their loyalty, it is currently regarded as one of the best crime dramas in recent memory. Financial expert Jason Bateman relocates his family from Chicago to Missouri following the collapse of a failed money laundering scheme. After the relocation, expect the drama and crime to continue: local and Mexican criminal groups will be featured in what frequently feels like a more somber episode of Breaking Bad.
When They See Us
Jharrel Jerome, one of the many cast members, won an Emmy for his participation in this highly anticipated and well-received miniseries directed by Ava DuVernay and based on the 1989 Central Park jogger case. The television show narrates the real story of the five individuals who were wrongly accused of raping and attacking a woman in Central Park. Oprah Winfrey Presents When They See Us Now was a highly attended special that ran alongside the show.
