Dog breeds for hunting
If you enjoy the sport of hunting, then you may enjoy owning a hunting dog. Over time, hunting became a sport rather than a way of life. Since then, dogs have been developed by humans into specific breeds with special properties. Generally speaking, the most common hunting dogs are considered either scent hounds or gun hounds.
Gun dogs: Often used to hunt birds, although they sometimes hunt smaller prey like rabbits. This type of hunting dog is used to locate prey and retrieve it from their owners.
Scent hound: Tracks prey through the sense of smell in its nose and makes a lot of noise while chasing prey. This allows the hunter to keep track even if the dog is out of sight. Some scent hounds specialize in hunting down prey. Other hounds chase their prey into trees and wait for their owners to arrive.
To help hunters hunt, dogs should possess some important skills:
Strong prey drive
receive training
Excellent endurance and athleticism
