Fenben Powder May Have Cancer-Fighting Properties
Fenben powder is a dewormer for dogs (and other animals) that is easy to administer. It comes in a palatable flavored suspension that can be mixed with canned food, and it is typically well-tolerated by dogs with minimal side effects.
It is also the dewormer of choice for pond fish, particularly freshwater tropical species, because it can be easily dissolved in water and poured directly into the aquarium. It's important to only buy veterinary grade fenben powder, since many other sellers use fillers in their bags and this will greatly reduce its effectiveness.
Research suggests that fenbendazole, or FFZ, may have cancer-fighting properties. Specifically, a team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego found that high doses of FFZ inhibited the growth of EMT6 tumor cells in vitro. This finding supports previous experiments in vivo that showed similar cytostatic and chemotherapeutic properties for fenbendazole.
The researchers tested different doses of fenbendazole in the lab, using a rigorous colony formation assay to measure cell survival. They found that FFZ reduced the clonogenicity of EMT6 cells in vitro, and that high-doses of fenbendazole had cytotoxic effects on the cells as well.
FFZ is a member of the benzimidazole carbamate family of antihelmintics (also known as BZ or “benz” drugs). This group has been in use for decades, and includes such broad-spectrum anthelmintics as praziquantel, pyrantel permeate, mebendazole, and albendazole. Of the three members of this group, only mebendazole has a long track record of safety and efficacy in human clinical trials. fenben powder
